What this covers
Grafana is the most commonly misunderstood product on this page, so it is worth being blunt: Grafana does not store your data. It queries data held somewhere else and draws it. That is the whole point, and it is why Grafana is additive rather than a replacement.
It reads over 150 data sources through plugins, including Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Zabbix, Loki, InfluxDB, PostgreSQL and MySQL. So it can put your Prometheus metrics, your Zabbix host checks and your Elasticsearch logs on one dashboard, next to each other, without migrating anything. For an organisation that has accumulated three monitoring systems over ten years, that is usually the fastest route to a single view.
Grafana Alerting defines alert rules visually across those data sources, so alerting can be unified even when the systems underneath are not. We build dashboards for the people who operate a service and separately for the people who answer for it, because they need different things from the same data.
One procurement note worth raising early rather than late: Grafana is licensed under AGPL-3.0, with Apache-2.0 exceptions. If your organisation has an open-source policy, that is a conversation to have at the start of the project.
