Zabbix enterprise monitoring
Open-source monitoring for classic infrastructure, network gear and appliances, with strong discovery and templating.
What this covers
Zabbix monitors servers, network devices, appliances, databases and services from a single self-hosted server. It works with an agent where you can install one, and agentless over SNMP, IPMI, SSH, JMX and HTTP where you cannot, which is what makes it a good fit for switches, routers, UPS units and storage arrays that will never run an agent.
Its real strength is auto-discovery and templating. A template applied to a host group configures monitoring for every host in it, and new hosts picked up by discovery inherit it automatically. On an estate of any size that is the difference between monitoring that keeps up with reality and monitoring that quietly falls behind it.
Version choice matters more with Zabbix than with most products, because the support policy is strict. LTS releases get three years of full support and two more of limited support; standard releases get six months, then one month. The current LTS is 7.0, supported to 30 June 2029.
